Individual Assignment Reflections
Rhetorical Analysis Reflection
I thought the rhetorical analysis was a relatively simple assignment. The website I chose to analyze was the NCAA website. I analyzed the homepage and how visual and textual aspects were used to make the website interesting. Noticing how much the website relied on images to draw in attention was easy. Right when the homepage opens up, there are several large images of current events with headlines attached. The textual parts of this page definitely succumb to the imagery. I think I analyzed the website well, however, I think my writing improved from this project to the research paper.
Photo Essay Reflection
This was my first time ever creating a photo essay. At first, I thought it was going to be easy and fun. The topic I focused on was whether or not student-athletes should be paid. When I created this project, I still believed that student-athletes should not be paid. I realized this project was not as easy as it sounded when I was trying to take photographs and gather them for a logical photo essay. I ended up capturing some photos, and I think my photo essay turned out decent for my first one. This project was a good learning experience and it showed me that photos often times tell stories that words cannot express.
Annotated Bibliography Reflection
The annotated bibliography was preparation for the research paper. I researched my topic and found eight sources that could be useful to my research paper. For each source, I basically explained how I would use the source, why I chose it, and who the author was.
Research Paper Reflection
The research paper was definitely the most time consuming project and probably the most difficult one compared to the other projects this semester. I used my annotated bibliography to read further into my topic. After some time researching student-athletes and whether or not they should be paid, I changed my mind. During the photo essay, I believed student-athletes should not be paid. The research opened my eyes to the exploitation occurring throughout college sports. Anyway, I had to use at least six of the sources from my annotated bibliography and create an argument. I think I did a decent job overall on this project.
