Design Plans

                                                       Rhetorical Analysis Design Plan
The purpose of this website is to attract more interest in college level sports. At the top of the page, there are current scores and previews of games that day. At the right hand side of the page, all of the latest news involving college sports appears with titles you can click on for the full story. There is also a link to direct the audience to buy tickets to college athletic events. The target audience for this website is college students in general. Students at certain colleges want their respective school to compete and win in athletics, and this is a way they can stay up to date with that.
This website can be accessed at any time of the day.
There is a pathos aspect of it where I think the NCAA is trying to get viewers excited about collegiate sports. The page includes large pictures of exciting events that have occurred around the country that grabs your attention and further interests you in that specific college sport. There are also links to social media sites like twitter that allow the audience to automatically get updates which can be very intriguing.
The medium used is a website that includes text, several pictures, videos, and links to other features available.
The arrangement of the page fairly simple. There is always a large picture with a big story that catches your eye. Then your eye kind of moves in a clockwise motion as you see the current scores on the top and then the current news on the right.

Photo Essay Design Plan

The audience for my photo essay will include my classmates and my professor. The context will be the day that the final version is due. We will all pull up our final product on our laptops, then go around and view each other’s projects. Our photo essays must be 8 to 10 pages long and relate to our research topics. It will include original photographs with captions that should be easily understandable.
I think I am going to try to raise questions to make the audience form an opinion on either why college athletes should or should not be paid a salary. I still need to take more photographs that will better show this visually. Colleges already pay for athletes’ tuition and supply them with gear and apparel, so why should they be paid? However, the athletes bring in a whole lot of money for schools. I need to take some photos that will ask these questions. This topic has been getting more and more controversial recently. I want my audience to think about where they stand on this conflict. Colleges already spend a lot of money on athletes. Some athletes get their tuition fully paid by the school, while getting free apparel and gear. So why should schools go even further and pay them like it’s a job?
I created a PowerPoint presentation for this photo essay. The photo essay contains photographs and text. I am a little concerned about getting quality photographs to display my argument. Also, I need to think about how I am going to arrange the photos to make a good argument. I think I will have two or three photos arguing that they should be paid and then two or three photos arguing why they should not be paid.

Research Paper Design Plan
So far, my projects this semester have been about the NCAA and whether or not college athletes should be paid. During this research project, I am going to look at arguments made by people on both sides. I have my opinion that I am going to argue as of right now, but after I do more research, I will reevaluate and see if I still believe the same thing.
For my research topic, I am thinking about going further into depth with the argument of whether or not college athletes should be paid. There is new information and new stories developing every day and I feel like it is a good topic to research because it is happening right now. As of right now, I think I am going to argue that college athletes should not be paid a salary, but as I research more on it, I may change my view. I want to learn more about how the NCAA system in place right now came about, and why they decided athletes should not receive pay. I also want to learn more about both sides of this controversy. What are all the reasons that argue for pay? Why does the NCAA refuse to pay them? Right now these players do not receive pay, so if they were to start being paid a salary, does this mean they get worker benefits as well? If it college athletics becomes like a job, will players still have to leave after the typical four years? Would payment take away from the National Football League or the National Basketball Association? Does the college level of sports transform into a minor league where athletes that are not professional material can stay and get paid even after finishing their education? These are some of the questions I want to learn more about.
I may include photographs and/or videos in my research paper. I have not decided on that yet, but I think I am going to use PowerPoint to make my project. As of right now, I am hoping to successfully argue that college athletes should not be paid. However, I do have an open mind about this subject. I think the audience could come to terms with argument. However, it could be just as easy to see the other side of the argument. About my topic, I know that as of right now, they are not paid. Just recently, the College Athletes Players Association or CAPA was formed. CAPA wants to eliminate rules made by the NCAA and establish a national players association.
I hope to learn more about why the players think they deserve pay and benefits. Now, I disagree with college athletes earning a salary. I came to this position by considering that you should play a sport because you love it, not because you want to become rich and famous. It seems wrong to pay students to play a sport even though they are not professionals. When it comes to personal experience, I do not see why they want to be paid. I played football for 13 years. If I were talented enough to play in the NFL, I would play for free and get another job if I had to. I love football. Money should not be such a large factor for these players.
