Introduction

For my projects this semester, I decided to focus on the National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA. I did the rhetorical analysis on the NCAA website. I discovered that the NCAA hypes up college sports, especially football and basketball, and draws a lot of attention from people all around the country. In fact, many of the star athletes are considered celebrities. Typically, celebrities are wealthy. So, the specific topic I wanted to argue throughout the semester was the ongoing controversy of whether or not student-athletes should be paid. At first, in the photo essay, my thoughts were that student-athletes should not be paid. They are students first and athletes second. Additionally, they receive numerous benefits and scholarship money that, in many cases, allow student-athletes to attend college free of charge. As I researched the subject more and more, my point of view flipped sides. I do, indeed, believe student-athletes should be paid. I believe this for certain reasons, though. Student-athletes should not be paid because they have a lot on their plate. Rather, it is extremely unfair the way student-athletes are exploited. Millions of dollars are made off student-athletes. Now, I believe student-athletes are not fairly compensated.
